Statutory Purpose

The statutory purpose of the foundation reads as follows:

“The Foundation aims to promote knowledge, education and awareness about ketogenic nutrition and keto as metabolic therapy, as well as to advance the quality, safety and integrity of its application in practice, in the broadest sense of the word, and furthermore everything that is related to, belongs to, and/or may be conducive to the foregoing.”

The foundation is an independent, non-commercial organisation. It has no profit motive and does not distribute profits to board members or third parties.

Mission and Vision

Mission

The European Keto Foundation advances knowledge, education and awareness about ketogenic nutrition and metabolic therapy. We support healthcare professionals, researchers and the general public with reliable, evidence-based information. Our focus is on public health education, prevention and the responsible application of ketogenic therapies in practice.

Vision

We envision a Europe where evidence-based ketogenic nutrition is simple, safe and supported in practice — for professionals and for the people who can benefit from it.

Activities

The foundation pursues its statutory purpose through:

  • Organising lectures, conferences, workshops and training programmes for healthcare professionals and the general public
  • Promoting and supporting scientific research
  • Publishing articles, guidelines and educational materials
  • Developing independent quality standards and certification pathways for education and professional practice in ketogenic therapies
  • Developing objective information standards on the composition and quality of products, to support consumer education and public health
  • Providing public information to promote the safe and responsible use of ketogenic nutrition
  • Building a European network of professionals, researchers and organisations active in this field

Secretary

The board meets at least twice per year. Decisions are taken by an absolute majority of votes. Board members with a conflicting interest do not participate in deliberations or decisions on that matter.

Remuneration Policy

Board members of Stichting European Keto Foundation receive no remuneration for their board activities.

The secretary receives a fixed monthly allowance of €300 for administrative work. Other expenses are reimbursed upon submission of supporting documentation.

The foundation has no paid employees.

Policy Plan — Key Principles

Sources of income

The foundation receives income from:

  • Donations from individuals and organisations
  • Annual donations from supporting donors (€60 per year)
  • Grants and project contributions
  • Contributions for participation in training programmes, conferences and events

Use of funds

All income is used exclusively to realise the statutory purpose: education, knowledge development, public communication and scientific collaboration. No profits are distributed.

Asset management

Assets are managed by the treasurer under supervision of the full board. The financial year runs from 1 January to 31 December.

Upon dissolution

Any positive balance upon dissolution of the foundation will be allocated to an ANBI with a similar purpose, or to a foreign institution that pursues exclusively or almost exclusively the public interest and has a similar purpose.

Activity Plan 2026

In 2026 the foundation focuses on building a solid foundation for its long-term activities.

Phase 1 — Q1/Q2

Foundation

Completing the amendment of the Articles of Association, submitting the ANBI application and preparing the website for publication of educational content.

Phase 2 — Q2/Q3

First activities

Launching fundraising with a target of €4,000. Setting up a knowledge base and blog with accessible, evidence-based information on ketogenic nutrition. Publishing first articles and public information materials.

Phase 3 — Q3/Q4

Network

Establishing first connections with healthcare professionals, researchers and organisations across Europe. Developing tools and resources to support informed decision-making by patients and consumers.

Financial Accountability

The first full annual report covers the financial year 2026 and will be adopted by the board no later than 30 June 2027 and published on this page.
